The school I attended until aged 11. Chater School Watford.
This first photo taken in 1915 during
World War One. Photo Courtesy of Watford Museum.
Note the soldiers in the playground and children outside railings.
Some troops were billeted there during that war. Second picture is
the same
school in about 1980 just before it was demolished.
And finally here is the same site in 1990 replaced
with a modern bungalow style primary school. The
railings are still the same. They've lasted well!

Before I sign off this
page I couldn't resist
putting a picture here of a product which will
be remembered by all those who were at school
in the 1950's and 60's. THE JUBBLY
A much missed product that vanished from our
corner sweet-shop shelves in the early
1960's.
Lots of people remember it, but few can remember
the carton so here is the
photo (black and white only) of a Jubbly Orange
Drink in the familiar Tetrahedron
Carton. It has taken me over two years to find
a Photo (supplied by Kind Permission of
Tetra Pak International.) They are the company
who originally made the carton pack.
The orange drink was
often sold frozen
making
a large ice lolly with no stick!
The carton was very
difficult to spill,
being so stable.
A very clever design. It is
strange that it is
not still sold today. The Orange Juice
content was manufactured by a
firm called Tip
Top. Everyone remembers the
taste.
Here below is a photo of the Chater School Harvest Festival of about
1954
with a sample of several classes probably a choir drawn from a few
age groups
just before taking local produce to the old folks in the Almshouses

There were many more Watford views I would like to have taken, but
sadly
the parking
facilities were horrendous and I gave up trying to find a space at
the top of the town.
